Green Filmmaking

This Sustainable Filmmaking page is designed to help Northern Film School students embed environmentally conscious practices into every stage of production. From pre-production planning to post-wrap recycling, it offers practical tools, local resources, and industry-recognised guidance to support greener filmmaking on any budget.

Why is sustainability so important on film sets?

THINK LOCAL!

Looking to source sustainably for your production? Leeds is home to some brilliant local organisations that support low-impact creativity. From reclaimed paint at Seagulls, to ethical set materials via SAIL (Sustainable Arts in Leeds), and Resource Hub’s affordable second-hand supplies, these partners can help you reduce waste, save money, and build greener sets. Wherever possible, we encourage you to work with local suppliers who share your commitment to sustainability.

Repurposing unwanted paint since 2005. The paint is diverted from landfill to help the planet, create jobs and help get peoples lives back on track.
